Headwater 1/2 Ironman
July 25th, 2010 | Swim 1.2 - Bike 56 - Run 13.1
Race starts at 7:00 AM

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In the 1980's there was only one triathlon in the state on Montana, The Sweet Pea Triathlon. It was an odd distance race that started in Three Forks, Mt and ended in Bozeman. In 1992, the directors gave up the race to anyone who wanted to take it over, nobody stepped up and the race dissolved. In 2009 we resurrected the Sweet Pea Triathlon, now called Headwaters 1/2 Iron! With the steady growth to the Gallatin Valley over the last couple decades it is impossible to bring the race into Bozeman, so the entire race will take place in Three Forks. (Elevation of Three Forks is 4,130 feet) The majority of the course will take place in and around the community of Three Forks.

Swim 1.2 miles
Two loop counter clockwise swim at the Three Forks Fishing Access at the Headwaters Gold Course. Wetsuits will be optional but recommended. Swim caps will be provided. We will post water temps as we get closer to race date.

Bike 56 Mile
The bike segment will be an out and back course. Hills near the turn around will test your climbing abilities. Helmets are mandatory. The bike portion will take participants into the surrounding communities of Manhattan (4,200 feet) and Churchill. The course will be open to traffic and cyclist are required to obey all traffic laws. USAT rules will apply. No Drafting! There will be one aid station at the turn around where athletes can take water bottles.

Run 13.1 miles
The run course will consist of two loops on paved and dirt roads. Some of the more rural roads will be gravel so racing flats are not recommended. The run course is flat with great views of the surrounding mountains. Spectators will have opportunities to see their runners at many points along the course.
